A link is two touching squares one apart
A 1 beside a 2, or a 3 beside a 4. It pays one point, and the point goes to whoever owns the higher number. Your 1s can never win a link, so they are tools rather than scorers.
Choose a number, then a square.
--accuracy
The higher tile scores. A run pays whoever holds the 4.
Choose a number, then a square.
Solved to the last square. One winning move each, and never the greedy one.
Two players, sixteen squares, three ways to play: Bullet, Blitz, Rapid
You hold two 1s, two 2s, two 3s and two 4s. So does your opponent. Take turns dropping one tile until the board is full, then count.

Two points instead of one. Quietly extending your own chain is almost never a wasted turn, and it is the safest way to build a lead.
Four squares linked into 1, 2, 3, 4 pays two more to whoever lands the 4, whoever placed the rest. Runs bend freely, and nearly all of them do.
Every tile counts toward every pattern no matter who placed it. Building toward a rung in the open hands your opponent the square that finishes it.
Measured by reading positions to the end, not by opinion.
A 4 earns more than any other tile because nothing outranks it, and that is exactly why spending one is expensive. Given a square you have decided to take, playing your 4 there rather than your 1 costs about half a point. The best tile in your hand is the worst one to spend.
A 3 dropped into open space is a landing pad for two enemy 4s, and nothing is ever removed from the board. The question each turn is not only what you collect, but what you leave sitting there.
The score only shows points already paid. With half the squares empty most of the game is unplayed, and a single tile can swing nine points. A one point deficit is close to even.
